i'm going to echo what everyone said in class about this episode. it feels very different from what we've seen so far. there seemed to be a lot more humorous moments, and the story moved at a quicker pace. they were finding out new information/evidence left and right!
as for symbols/metaphors, i think of the obvious one, leeland's hair turning white, as a symbol/sort of physical manifestation of his emotions and the turning point within his character. the owls have some sort of double meaning/function as well, but i'm not sure what yet, and i'm excited to find out!
i can't wait to see what happens with the creepy-eyed plant guy!
The most I can remember at this episode is the scene with donna and this guy. I totally missed, how she got to him? Did they say something about a letter?
It's really weird for a guy at his age to be so introvert and have flowers that he's talking to. He's like these people who never really had friends and just stay at home 'I don't like to go out'. That 's why I think he was so into the stories of Laura. Maybe she was the only person who really talked to him. I'm wondering if Laura was just a friend for him or if there was something more going on.
The other scene is the hospital scene with medin and her husband. This was scarry. How can she be so strong and break the chain? And what did the pills do to her?
I'm wondering how Laura had time to help out Meals on Wheels, considering she was living a double life that consisted of drugs, sex, and who knows what else. I feel like there was another reason she went on those Meals on Wheels trips (other than visiting, but I'm not sure what.
It is obvious that there is some information about Laura in the diary. I feel like Laura gave it to the plant guy (can't remember his name) because she knew he was sort of a hermit and did not have much contact with the outside world.
i agree with julia as to the symbolism in Leland's hair turning white. there are other things that carry symbolism in the show, but I'm not quite sure what they stand for yet, such as the giant. He seemed to be almost like a guardian angel or something by helping Cooper and giving him clues. However, I am still not sure what he was supposed to be.
I'm curious to see what will happen with Audrey. If she returns home safely, will she continue her quest to find out what happened with Laura, or will she give up after this frightening ordeal? Also, if she comes home, will she stay? After knowing how awful and gross her father is, she probably won't want to stay around him.
