  1. The cinematopgraphy was beautiful. I thought the storyline was interesting and how there was a film within a film. I was really drawn to the characters and the language. It's interesting how quick each scene changed and how different they all were. They all flowed together nicely though. The makeup done to all the women were gorgeous. I was just curious as to what was wrong with him medically. Since in the beginning, he seemed to be dreaming or under a drug.

  2. The ambiguity of this film accompanied by elliptical editing is extremely refreshing in a world filled with cliche stories and lack luster performances. I loved the European sensibility in this film, it is much more subtle and complex than anything we have here in America. I thought the cinematography was really beautiful and the black and white imagery really helped blur the lines between what is reality and what is the fictional subconscious of his mind. Similarly to "In the Mood for Love", I felt as though the script was only a minor aspect of this film. There was so much more said through the sincere performances and wonderful storytelling than could ever be said in words.

  3. Fellini did a great job directing this film. I'm still unsure of the first scene, where the main character is stuck in traffic and floating through the air. I think I would have to view it a few more times. It's funny watching this a second time and putting other films into context, I see different parts of The Science of Sleep being influenced by this movie. Especially in the dream sequence when he falls asleep and the dream is narrated by him.

  4. There were a lot of aspects I liked about this film, but as a whole I'm not so sure. I didn't mind not knowing what was going on in certain parts -- but the fact some of them went on so long frustrated me. I found the opening to be really interesting - it was so bizarre and made me so trapped! I still have no idea what this film means! I think i'm going have to read some IMDB forums on this one...
