Twin Peaks Episode THIRTEEN
Think about sequence analysis exercises and write responses
that reflect on camera, lighting, props, symbols, metaphors,
visual style, the mise en scène. Costumes, dialogue, sets,
space, movement, sound, (both diegetic and non-diegetic) ...
etc.

The scene with Leo all done up with party stuff is hilarious. He played it well by staying still the whole time. Wow. I am just waiting for the moment when he comes back to kill Shelley and Bobby. Lynch or whoever better make it good.
ReplyDeleteI think the most effective scene was the end when they were interrogating one armed man. There were many close ups on his face which distorted his features and made him into a separate character. The lighting shone only on his face and made it more intense. There were a lot of cuts from face to face with everyone in the room. I think this episode made a lot more sense than the past ones.
I am also waiting to see what happens between Ben Horn and Catherine. Also Josie, once she cashs the check and there really isn't 5 mill in there. As usual, there is so much going on.
Laura's dad is still not rehabilitated. He is still in his singing mode. I wonder why he took that white fur off of that taxidermy animal. That was strange. On to the next episode!
i think that scene with maddy and james where they're sitting by the lake was the most brightly lit, sunny, happy-looking scene we've seen so far. it was kind of hazy and dreamy, and maddy's clothes were very pale and perfect-looking. it felt out of place, i guess, but then james said something about being in love you feel like a bright light is shining on you, so that makes sense. although, i must say, that james is the cheesiest character in the whole show.
ReplyDeletealso, the party scene with leo was hilarious! it's also very nerve wracking because you're constantly on edge waiting for leo to wake up in the middle of bobby saying something bad about him. he's a scary guy!
I totally agree with jaime. I think leo is coming back, but I m not sure about killing shelley and bobby. I expect are really complicated story at the end.
ReplyDeleteI think even in this scene with leo are some good camera angels. The first one with the wheelchair was very well done. First I didn t realize what it was and I didn t even expect leo to come back. I thought he was dead. But maybe I just missed it in the last episode when they talked about it?
Another sequence that i really liked is the one of James and Maddy on the lake. The atmosphere which is created by the different positions of the camera is very well done. First of all Maddy is sitting alone with the camera in her back. There is just the boat on the lake which creates this silent atmosphere. After a close up during the conversation between the two the camera goes back and shows James sitting alone on the lake. Great switch of the characters which fits perfect in the story. She leaves him alone.
The beginning part when Harold goes crazy with his planting claw, is so cheesy and horribly acted, but I still think its awesome. The music always makes it sound so dramatic, but sometimes cheesey.
ReplyDeleteIts funny how the corny scenes balance out with the really brilliant ones, like the lake one as Julia was saying, where the lightin is perfect and the shots between the 2 are really soft and easy to watch. Definately one of the more normal scenes.
I could not agree with ashley more! Haha, that gardening tool had fake blood on it hardcore!
ReplyDeleteAlso, at first I didn't notice, but Julia is right about that scene by the lake. It seems like the other day scenes are usually overcast -- or they don't seem as happy and cheerful as that scene did today.
Before I watched episode 14 - I wondered about Maddy leaving because she seemed too important to the story to just leave. I kind of figured something would stop her from leaving.
